Top-Up Skills Course For Residential Care Workers

This accredited training program covers the core skills achieved in the Certificate IV Child Youth and Family Intervention: Residential and out of home care specialisation. Specifically tailored to the Residential Care Services Industry, participants will gain valuable skills and knowledge in areas such as trauma, working in residential care, and managing behaviour.

Completion of this short program ensures workers within Victoria meet the latest Youth Residential Care minimum qualification requirements introduced by the Victorian State Government. It is also beneficial for those Youth Workers operating in Queensland that do not hold the preferred training qualification (Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and out of Home Care)). As this program ensures a baseline of core skills and knowledge for all residential care workers is achieved.

Course Content

Upon completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the following three units of competency:

  • CHCPRT009 Provide Primary Residential Care
  • CHCMHS007 Work Effectively in Trauma Informed Care
  • CHCCCS009 Facilitate Responsible Behaviour

Course Duration

12 weeks.

Participation

This course has been developed for those already working in residential care. Holding a position in the field is a course prerequisite. Course participants need to have reasonable literacy and numeracy skills as written assessment tasks form part of the course. Literacy support will be provided if needed.

Those with previous qualifications will still find this course of benefit and value to their work.

You will also have direct access to our training team through face-to-face or teleconferenced group coaching and tutorial sessions which are regularly scheduled throughout your enrolment period.

Because your course work is hosted online, you will need access to a computer and a stable internet connection to complete this course.

Types of Assessments

Course participants will be asked to undertake a number of assessment tasks, specifically linked to their current work. While many are written tasks, students are not asked to provide long essays as a part of the assessment process. As this is a vocationally based course, assessments are made utilizing a competency based framework.

Course participants are required to demonstrate competence in the units of competency identified above.
